Light: Video

Everything that I do in the chapel is actually an act of praise, thanksgiving, and adoration to God, who’s gazing at me. And I’m returning that gaze – wanting to return that gaze every moment I have because I’m so in love with Jesus.

    Brother Curtis’s comments about losing the light of God touched my heart. Knowing that others, yes even the religious, have periods, years of darkness reassures me when I’m in gloom. To carry on faithfully is overwhelmingly courageous. Thank you.

    Brother Curtis’ comments about losing the feeling of God’s presence brought me to tears, because Inrealized that I have not felt God’s presence for a very long time. Yet I, too, am still here, because it’s not about my feeling, but God’s faithfulness.

    Br. Curtis’s witness impressed me as well. In a desert journey God must find you because you are far from finding God. Today in church we sang in Ps. 32: “Your hand was heavy upon me day and night, my moisture was dried up as in the heat of summer”. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go , I will guide you with my eye”. You are never alone your desert journey.

    When I was listening to Br. Curtis’ felt experience of God’s absence, and his realization (through his own persistence!) that God was still with him, this is what came to mind—

    If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
    and the light around me become night,”
    even the darkness is not dark to you;
    the night is as bright as the day,
    for darkness is as light to you. Psalm 139

    His experience gives me more faith that God is present, no matter what I feel or perceive.

    I find God,S presence in silence and his joy in light.

    Thank you so much for this wonderful video! The brothers Jim, Keith, Geoffrey and Curtis spoke to my heart so eloquently! I love each of them so much! Each of you, so eloquently, gave me pause to think about light and darkness and how each contributes to my relationship with the Trinity. Without light, there can be no darkness and without darkness, there can be no light. It is comforting to believe that God is present in both of them!

    I find God’s light in the world every time I open a door for a stranger, or say hello to a stranger. Just today, when I was going into Gold’s Gym for Silver Sneakers, I saw a fireman. I told him that i say a big red truck outside the gym parked on the yellow curbing. I asked if I should call the police; he said probably. I then thanked him for being the hero he is, and he hugged me. That is God’s light.

    Really excellent resource and very moving. I keep returning to the works of Father Richard Meux Benson and SSJE for guidance and support at this time. Thank you.
