Water: Tuesday

When we bless water for baptism, we tell the story of how water has become to us a sign of life. We remember that in the beginning, the Holy Spirit moved over the waters. We remember that through water God led the children of Israel out of bondage into freedom. We remember that through water Jesus was baptized by John in the Jordan, and in our own baptism, we move from the bondage of sin and death into the freedom of resurrection and everlasting life.

My baptism by immersion 53 years ago was life changing and continues to be. I am very aware of water in my life and this week I will be even more so. I eagerly anticipate what Jesus has prepared for me and I will look forward with excitement and devotion t to HIS abundant revelations.

This comes to mind immediately: “So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom”. (Psalm 90) For me this is a day-to-day trust that Christ is there tempering whatever the heart’s wisdom may be.

My need is to roll over to God my fear of dying…to realize the God’s plan for me is set and if it is to die tomorrow, heaven is a better place than imaginable for me.

And in the Anima Christi we pray: ” Water from Christ’s side, wash out my stains.””

    MEDITATION ON WATER

In our small mission church in the middle of New Hampshire, a blending of two even smaller missions, Deacon Maryan and our Vicar, Rev. Kelly, have set as a Lenten disciple the challenge to preach on each of these topics during Lent while not discounting the Lessons appointed for each Sunday. I retired from a 45 year career as a teacher, lastly for Language Arts and Science. The image of the Water Molecule immediately came to me this past Sunday. There are two parts hydrogen, potentially dangerous, and one part life-necessary oxygen needed to make water. With God as our oh so necessary life-sustaining oxygen, two very different congregations are combining to create the Living Water to go forth and do what we are called to be, Children of God.

Having a chance to be wash cleanse to start a fresh will be one of the greatest things I would appreciate. I pray that each day I will become better in my daily walk that I will be what God will have me to be.
